OK I have kids and I am one of God's kids! When my kids want something they need to negotiate. It's no good them demanding stuff from me they need to make a case and make me understand their need. They need to show me proper respect. It's no good them marching in a being abusing and expecting to get what they want. We know that, but consider this scenario:
Becky - "Dad, at 7 O clock tonight there is a program I really want to watch. It's quite educational. It's something I'm really into and I need to watch it so that I can discuss it with my friends tomorrow. I know there is something on you want to watch but would it be OK?"
Me - "OK, Bex, it sounds fine to me!"
Then, I'm sitting watching telly at 6.59 and Becky walks in.
Becky - "It's 7 O'clock dad!"
Now, notice we have already done the negotiating. We have already done the required respect. Now she is owed something. She has my word that she can watch it. Now, there is no room to be disrespectful. But all she needs to do is say the word to invoke the promise.
Would it make sense if she now walked in at 6.55 and started saying it all again? The deal has been struck, she doesn't need to haggle again. All she needs to do is claim what is rightfully hers. Now, if I am not trustworthy and true to my word then I could change my mind. But God is trustworthy and true to His word. If He has promised something then the deal is done.
"20For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes;" 2 Corinthians 1:20
How many times have you heard someone pray that Jesus would be with us, when He has already said He will never leave us?! How many times when we pray do we plead for what is already ours by His word? The point is that it shows that we are truly trusting in His word, we are not truly knowledgeable of His word. I'm not making any boasts here, I am just as ignorant, but I think I should make sure that I spend some time finding out what God has promised!!
