OK, 3 year - 5 year plan!!

I have heard two different ways of saying the same thing:

If you do something for half an hour a day for five years you will become an expert.

If you do something for an hour a day for three years you will become an expert!

So, either invest half an hour a day for five years or an hour a day for three years and you will become an expert!! Sounds good to me! The question is, what do I want to become an expert in. If I look at what I want to do now, what I would like to be better at now, I can create quite a list, possibly there aren't enough hours in the day!!

Christian maturity, to be self filling and able to love and support others and help them to be self filling.
To be able to make wood pieces (jewellery boxes) that are worthy heirloom status.
To be able to communicate, hopefully through a book, my first point above.

I probably heard this idea of becoming an expert roughly (or over) five years ago. What has changed in the past five years? Five years ago I was writing a motivational daily devotional and wanted to become an expert in that. All I can say is that God seems to have had other plans! However, I still have a desire to motivate others through writing! I wasn't doing woodwork then, but I was probably wanting to do something tactile and creative. I probably haven't invested in this dream everyday for the past five years, but I can honestly say I feel better at the things that motivate me now than I did then.

I am not sure I will invest the amount of time diligently over the next three to five years, but I am sure that I will continue to move in that direction.

I could also add to the list that I want to be healthy, to eat healthy and exercise.

I should point out what I mean by being "Self Filling!" It is said that sheep are so stupid that they will die of thirst standing next to water!

We have God's word and the Holy Spirit, but there are a lot of Christians in the world who do not apply the word to their lives, even if they read it every day. There are also Christians in the world who do not walk in the Spirit.

Two young men were picked to represent their school in an athletics event. Both were given strict instructions for exercise, diet and rest. One made sure that he stuck to the plan while the other was less diligent. He would sneak in all kinds of treats he shouldn't have, would party at night while he was supposed to be resting and couldn't be bothered to do all of the exercises.

Which of those two is self filling? Obvously the one who follows the plan. The other is being selfish. Both have been entrusted to represent the school, one is a good representative the other a bad one. One can be trusted the other needs someone to stand over them to keep them disciplined.

What I mean by being self filling is that we would rather do what we should do than indulge the flesh.
